Removing local rust-docs

When running rustup update, my HDD was being hammered, slowing down the whole thing. Disabling antivirus didn’t help. The culprit seemed to be rust-docs, which unpacks hundreds of small files.

Apparently rust-docs only serves as an offline docs viewer, something I don’t even know where to find. So, let’s uninstall this damn thing. As a bonus, we’ll save some hard disk space.

First, remove all current docs:

rustup component remove rust-docs --toolchain stable
rustup component remove rust-docs --toolchain nightly

And from now on, update with:

rustup set profile minimal
rustup update

Even better, a shorthand for our ~/.bashrc:

alias rsupdate='rustup set profile minimal && rustup update'
